Welcome to the TDSB Active Travel Planner

The TDSB Active Travel Planner is a web map that allows you to visualize relevant features around a school to inform and guide your planning process for active school travel, either by walking or cycling.

Using the TDSB Active Travel Planner

There are two main features of this web map: Visualize and Plan.

Visualize

Showing and hiding layers
- You may toggle on or off layers through the sidebar or icons to see any features of interest.
Want to know more?
- Click on a feature to open a pop-up with relevant information of the feature. This only works for school, parks, bike share stations, and subway stations features.
Interested in a specific school?
- Search for a target school via the search box in the navigation bar, or double-click on the school point feature to zoom in to focus on a school.
When focusing in on a school
  • All other schools will be hidden from view.
  • Two buffers around the school will show up, representing 5 minutes walking distance and cycling distance respectively. You may use the slider and toggles at the top of the map to adjust the buffer distances and turn the buffers on/off respectively.
  • All walking bus stop suggestions (such as parks and bike share stations) within the buffer distance will be highlighted.
  • Hover on non-school features to see their distance and estimated traveling times to the school in focus.

Plan

Recording features of interest
- Have a non-school feature that you want to include in your plan? Simply double click on it to highlight them for reference. To remove, simply click on the marker!
Drawing an active travel route
- Use the drawing tools () at the bottom right of the map to draw a route. Click on the drawn route to see its total length and estimated traveling time.
Happy with your route?
- Click at the bottom right of the map to export the map as a PNG file!
